Low water pressure in parts of Pretoria
Water utility Rand Water said a power trip at its Palmiet Pump Station has reduced pumping capacity affecting water supply.
The Rand Water Palmiet pump station that experienced a power failure on Wednesday resulting in reduced operation by 20%, is back pumping at 100%, the Tshwane metro has said.
The reduced operations had affected water supply to several areas in the city.
On Thursday, Tshwane said Rand Water notified it that the pump station is now at full capacity.
But despite this pump station returning to normality, some of the Tshwane reservoirs supplied by Rand Water are sitting at extremely low levels or with no water at all.
The metro said the affected areas are Olievenhoutbosch, Lotus Gardens, Thatchfield, Soshanguve, Atteridgeville, Laudium and Mabopane.
Metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba said the trip resulted in the depletion of the water utility’s Klipriviersberg, Klipfontein, Brakfontein and Hartebeesthoek reservoirs that supply Tshwane.
“According to Rand Water, the affected reservoirs’ levels have shown positive signs of improvement since pumping was optimised. This means that the city’s reservoirs will gradually recover,” Bokaba urged residents to exercise patience during this period.
“Residents will be kept updated as and when there are new developments.”
He said the metro apologises for the inconvenience caused by this unplanned water supply interruption.
“The city is pleading once more with residents in the low-lying areas to use water sparingly, to allow the system to reach a level at which high-lying areas can be supplied.”
