Police arrest two armed robbers in Hercules
Residents with information about the whereabouts of the remaining three suspects are urged to come forward.
Police and private security personnel recently arrested two suspects on Wednesday after they were allegedly involved in an armed robbery in Hercules, Pretoria West.
Units and stakeholders, including SAPS K9, SAPS Air Wing, CPF members, private security companies, and local community members responded to the scene.
The arrest came at 10:15 when Uberwatchung Security had put out a call to the Hercules SAPS for assistance regarding an ongoing robbery.
Police responded and preliminary investigations revealed that an armed robbery had occurred at a shop on Erma Street, where a woman was allegedly robbed.
“Security personnel pursued the suspects’ vehicle, during which five suspects abandoned the vehicle in a nearby field and fled on foot. Inside the vehicle, SAPS officers discovered a handbag belonging to the victim and a firearm which the suspects had left behind before escaping the area,” said police spokesperson, Captain Johan van Dyk.
“Further reports indicated that two Toyota Avanza vehicles were involved in the incident; one vehicle was allegedly used for reconnaissance, while the other was deployed for the robbery,” said Van Dyk.
The two suspects are currently being detained at Hercules SAPS and an investigation is ongoing.
Residents with any information regarding the remaining suspects are urged to contact local law enforcement.
