Station commander wants to bridge gap between law enforcement and residents

According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, station commander Brigadier Kushie Pietersen will be working towards winning the trust of the community at the prominent Pretoria East police station.

Brooklyn police station commander Brigadier Kushie Pietersen began her tenure at the station in 2015, consistently demonstrating her commitment and support for the community and the CPF in the area.

“Since then, she has been actively involved in community outreach projects, safety programmes and other initiatives to foster a safer policing precinct for all residents,” said police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.

Nevhuhulwi was reacting to the election of a new executive committee of the Brooklyn CPF with Gabedi Mogatwe as its newly elected chairperson.

Mogatwe was elected chairperson CPF as well as its sector 1 subcommittee on October 22.

Other newly elected members include: Sub-sector 2 chairperson Louis Erasmus, sub-sector 3 chairperson Hannes van Staden, sub-sector 4 Mike Michaelides and public relations official, Emile Sievers.

Nevhuhulwi said Pietersen is calling on all community members to support the new CPF.

“She believes the CPF plays a critical role in bridging the gap between the community and law enforcement, fostering trust and work together to address local safety concerns,” confirmed Nevhuhulwi.

He emphasised that the election process was facilitated by the Tshwane District CPF Board.

“It was done in accordance with the CPF constitution.”

Sievers, the spokesperson for the executive committee of the Brooklyn CPF, recently told Rekord the CPF was struggling to find common ground with a dysfunctional police station.

He also said he believed although it’s difficult to predict what the relationship with the management of the station would be in future, the goal of the current CPF was to establish clear, constructive communication and cooperation with the police.

Sievers pointed towards various achievements of the CPF, such as being awarded the title “Best CPF in Tshwane” in 2022.

The police station had operated without the CPF since September 2023, following the resignation of the previous executive.
