Tshwane police promote 68 officers

The police officers from stations across the metro who were promoted include eight colonels, 40 lieutenant-colonels and 20 captains.

The Tshwane District Commissioner honoured more than 60 Tshwane police officers from different stations on Wednesday for being awarded promotions this year.

Commissioner Samuel Thine led a ceremony in which officers were awarded their new ranks at the district office at Pretoria Moot Police Station.

Eight of them were promoted to colonels, 40 to lieutenant-colonels and 20 to captains.

“This ceremony is more than just an acknowledgement of achievement – it is a testament to each officer’s unwavering integrity, humility, and dedication to service. Our newly promoted officers have shown exemplary commitment to the values that define our police service: respect, discipline, and a firm stance against corruption. As they rise in rank, their responsibilities grow, and so does the weight of their duty to uphold justice,” said spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk.

The district commissioner emphasised the importance of integrity being the backbone of effective policing.

“With each greater rank comes the greater need to serve with humility, placing the community and the personnel working under their command and needs above personal gain,” Thine said.

“I urge you to stand as pillars of discipline and fairness, serving as examples in the fight against corruption. The commitment of each promoted officer here today not only strengthens the Tshwane police service, but also builds trust within our communities,” he said.

He bestowed the new ranks on each officer, starting with the colonels, then the lieutenant-colonels and ending with the captains.
