Northern firefighters rescue dog trapped in water drain

A local resident spotted the animal crying for help and immediately called for help.

The Sinoville Firefighters Association (SFFA) proved to be saviours not just to humans, but to animals as well when they rescued a dog that had become trapped in a water drain in Magalieskruin.

A spokesperson for the SFFA, Zenobia Loock du Plessis said the association was alerted about a dog needing help during the morning of Saturday, November 9.

“We received a cry for help for a little doggy trapped in a water drain. A local resident spotted the dog and immediately alerted the community group,” said Loock du Plessis.

Loock du Plessis said within minutes, three Sinoville firefighters arrived at the address and began tracking the dog.

“The dog had moved further down the drain but thanks to their quick response and persistence, it was safely secured and happily returned to its rightful owner at a nearby old-age home,” Loock du Plessis said.

She said the community expressed their appreciation to SFFA.

“SFFA’s quick response, dedication to saving lives, and genuine care make such a difference in the community.”

She said if anyone is interested in making a difference, to consider joining the SFFA team of volunteers.

“Volunteers are people who are willing to stand out and care, regardless of the stresses they may face at home or in their environment. They are the ones who make us feel safe and supported. Thank you to all for your selflessness and dedication.”
