Centurion community unites in life-saving blood drive
The blood drive highlights the critical importance of blood donations by residents.
Centurion residents banded together on Saturday to support a vital blood drive initiative led by the Lyttelton Community Policing Forum (CPF).
According to Lyttelton CPF spokesperson Tanya Nieuwenhuizen, the initiative is inspired by a personal story of need.
Nieuwenhuizen said about a year ago, a patroller’s daughter underwent a life-changing blood transfusion, receiving four units of blood during one procedure.
She stated that this experience highlighted the critical importance of blood donations.
“As we head into the festive season, it’s vital to have enough blood,” she said.
“We’re grateful for our security companies and community members who came out in numbers to donate blood.”
Resident Ewan Jooste emphasised the significance of blood drives.
“It’s not just about fighting crime, it’s about helping those in need,” he said.
Jooste said the country is in dire need of blood, so initiatives like these are crucial to support.
Marlan Munien, another community member, learned about the event through Facebook.
“It’s crucial to donate blood and save those in hospitals needing blood,” said Munien.
