MISSING: Help find daughter as Mamelodi family lives in fear

The young teen was last spotted leaving her home in Section D last Friday, November 8.

A family in Mamelodi is gripped by fear and uncertainty as they search for their missing daughter.

Maria Mnisi (14) went missing on the evening of November 8.

The young girl was last spotted leaving her home in Section D, heading out to buy bread and sugar at around 20:30.

Her father, Andries Kekana, recounted the events leading to her disappearance.

“Before going to the shops, her mother asked her to wash the dishes and she got angry,” Kekana explained.

“I assumed she might have taken a taxi to a further supermarket to avoid chores.”

When Mnisi failed to return home after several hours, the family grew concerned and contacted the police.

Kekana said police officers arrived shortly after midnight and initiated a search for his missing daughter.

“At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a black jumpsuit with a red and blue T-shirt.

She’s about 1.5 to 1.6m tall, not too slim and has a dark brown complexion.”

He said Mnisi lives with her uncle, since it’s closer to school and visits them during weekends and school holidays.

Since her disappearance, the family has contacted other relatives, but none have seen or heard from her.

He said the emotional toll of her absence weighs heavily on the family.

“We haven’t been able to sleep since she went missing. We receive constant tip-offs about her whereabouts, but when we follow up with the police, we find nothing.

“When we get to these places, people deny ever providing us with information, making it increasingly difficult for us.”

Sergeant Mazibuko, who is investigating the case, revealed that Maria’s stepfather, who sells goods at the Mamelodi Hostel, reported seeing her on Sunday when she asked him for money to buy bread.

“He said he was unaware that she was reported missing and escorted her out of the hostel after their brief encounter,” Mazibuko explained.

She said police officers went to search for her at the hostel, but did not find her.

“I believe she is around; it’s just a matter of locating her.”

Residents in Mamelodi are urged to keep an eye out for Maria Mnisi and report any information that could help in her safe return to Sergeant Mazibuko on 072 907 2108 or her father, Andries Kekana, on 072 384 5490.
