Operation Basadi arrests man for possession of unlicensed firearm
The suspect was arrested after failing to provide a reasonable explanation for possessing the illegal firearm.
Female police officers manning an operation in the Tshwane metro arrested one suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm during Operation Basadi in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria on November 19.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said an unlicensed firearm was discovered in the suspect’s possession during a search.
He said the suspect was arrested immediately when he failed to provide a reasonable explanation for possessing the illegal firearm.
“From the onset of the operation, these women made it clear that criminal activities would not be tolerated.
“Their swift action led to the arrest of 27 suspects for various offences, including being undocumented immigrants, public drinking, and illegal gambling.”
Van Dyk said the operation focused on pedestrians and enforcing liquor compliance.
During the operation, a total of 480 individuals, 135 vehicles, and five premises were searched.
Inspections of 10 liquor outlets and six spaza shops resulted in the closure of one unlicensed shebeen and the confiscation of liquor.
“The Tshwane Metro Police Department ladies also demonstrated their dedication to law enforcement by issuing 32 Aarto infringement notices amounting to R13 580 in fines.”
