Police nab Nellmapius suspect after finding unlicenced firearm in toilet
An intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest in Nellmapius Ext 7 on Wednesday.
Police arrested and charged a suspect with possession of an illegal firearm in Nellmapius Ext 7 on November 20.
Police spokesperson Johan van Dyk said the Silverton police conducted an intelligence-driven operation following information about an unlicensed firearm in Nellmapius, Ext 7.
“The information was meticulously verified through sustained observation, which allowed the team to pinpoint the location of the firearm and identify the suspect.”
Van Dyk said with the confirmed intelligence, a takedown operation was carefully planned and executed.
He added that the team proceeded to the identified residence on Wednesday.
“Using a tactical approach, the house was secured, and one suspect was apprehended on the scene.”
Van Dyk said during the extensive search of the premises, a firearm was discovered concealed in the toilet.
“The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.”
He said the firearm will undergo ballistic testing to establish whether it has been used in any other criminal activities.
Major-General Samuel Thine commended the Silverton SAPS members for their diligence and professionalism and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a safe festive season.
