Man sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for the murder of his step-father

According to the police, the accused took a knife and fatally stabbed his stepfather after a heated argument.

The Moretele Magistrate’s Court sentenced 32-year-old Thomas Debeza to 12 years imprisonment for the murder of his stepfather in Mashimong Section 4, Temba in Hammanskraal in September 2018.

This comes after Debeza stabbed his father to death following an argument in their house in Mashimong on September 20, 2018, at around 20:30.

According to Temba police spokesperson Sergeant Herman Moremi, the accused took a knife and stabbed his stepfather in the upper body.

Moremi said police were summoned to the scene where they found the deceased in a pool of blood. They arrested the suspect on the same day and recovered the murder weapon.

“The docket was assigned to Detective Sergeant Thomas Ngwenya of Temba Detectives who left no stone unturned and proved the allegation against Debeza beyond reasonable doubt.

“Debeza appeared in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court on November 19 where he was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 12 years direct imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm,” said Moremi.

Moremi said Station Commander Brigadier Johannes Tau welcomed the conviction and applauded the investigating officer who worked tirelessly on the case till to the end.
