Festival of Indonesia draws a big crowd

This weekend, Loftus Park hosted the Festival of Indonesia, celebrating the cultural and diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and South Africa, which commemorated the 30 years of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The event highlighted the richness of Indonesia’s heritage alongside South Africa’s vibrant traditions, symbolising the unity and shared values between the two nations.

Pretoria residents came from far and wide to participate in the day’s festivities, which included traditional Indonesian dances and martial arts demonstrations, demonstrating Indonesia’s dynamic cultural history and its modern-day expressions.
Expressing their interest, some of the residents said the festival underscored the value of Indonesia’s contribution to the global and South African economy, especially the textile craft the country is renowned for.

Festivalgoers had a large variety of authentic Indonesian cuisine to feast on: and feast they did so while enjoying unique shows like a cultural collaboration between our country’s own Zulu dancers and Indonesian dancers.

A sentiment echoed by many festivalgoers was that the event had such a nice vibe and energy, that they would never miss it again.

One of the highlights of the day was the energetic performance of PJ Powers, who all but set the stage on fire.

Rio Mangge of the Embassy of Indonesia told Rekord the event was such a success that it would certainly be held again next year.
