Tshwane warns of fraudster posing as CFO
According to Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashogo, the fraudster has been emailing service providers regarding tenders, claiming to be the chief financial officer and using the name "TG Mnisi".
Tshwane is warning the public to be vigilant of a fraudster impersonating its CFO (chief financial officer), Mr Gareth Mnisi.
Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the fraudster has been emailing suppliers regarding a tender for the supply of printing papers, files and envelopes, claiming to be the CFO and using the name “TG Mnisi”.
He said the email instructs the supplier to contact them ASAP on 083 668 2803.
“Kindly inform the director to contact me ASAP on 083 668 2803 regarding tender no: GFS 01-2024/25 for the appointment of service provider(s) to supply, deliver, and off-load printing papers, files, and envelopes for three years as and when required,” states the email.
“The email is clearly manufactured by a fraudster and should be ignored,” said Mashigo.
Mashigo warns locals and potential metro suppliers not to fall for such requests communicated via email or any other platform.
He said Tshwane advertises tenders in various newspapers.
“The metro will register a case docket with the SAPS and ask them to escalate the matter to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI – Hawks).
The city hopes the fraudster will be apprehended and prosecuted for committing a crime using the name of the metropolitan’s CFO.”
