Expect water supply interruptions in Pretoria due to maintenance
Work on December 6 on Rand Water's Mapleton System will affect several reservoirs and meters.
Parts of Pretoria might experience water supply disruptions on Friday, December 6 due to the maintenance of water infrastructure in Gauteng.
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said Rand Water has alerted Tshwane that it plans to maintain the infrastructure at its Mapleton System.
He said the work will take place from 08:00 to 16:00.
“The planned maintenance work, according to the water utility, is aimed at improving the system’s reliability and efficiency.”
Mashigo added that the essential work will result in low pressure or no supply to the Tshwane network supplied by the Mapleton System.
He said the water utility has reported there will be no pumping from its system for the duration of the maintenance work.
“To mitigate the impact of a possible water supply interruption, the city is planning to fill the reservoirs which will be affected, to over 80% a few days prior to the commencement of the maintenance work,” said Mashigo.
“However, the water supply may be interrupted during the upkeep period and residents are therefore urged to use water sparingly.”
Mashigo said their technicians will also ensure that the city’s water sources are operating optimally during this period.
He added that roaming water tankers will be dispatched as and when the need arises.
The following reservoirs and meters will be affected:
– Corobrik Plant
– Carina Street Reservoir
– Garsfontein Reservoir
– Eersterust Reservoir
– Elardus Park Reservoir
– Kilner Park Reservoir
– Koedoesnek LL Reservoir
– Klapperkop Reservoir
– Waverley LL Reservoir
– Gastonbury Reservoir, Six Fountain Estate and Silver Willows
– Hatherley meter
– Koedoesnek HL Reservoir
– Midas and Leander meters
– Mooikloof Reservoir
– Sammy Marks Museum meter
– Savannah: Shere meter
– Woodlands Mall meter
Mashigo said the metro apologises for the inconvenience that may be encountered as a result of the abovementioned maintenance work.
The metro wishes to remind residents to always adhere to the following water conservation measures:
– Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
– Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.
– Do not fill swimming pools.
– Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
– Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
– Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.
– Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.
– Take a short shower rather than a bath.
– Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.
– Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
