Centurion church hosts first Om die Dorp race
Participants either cover 5km, 10km, or 21.1km distances.
The Pierre van Ryneveld Geloofsfamilie hosted its first annual Om Die Dorp Run this past weekend in Centurion.
The race welcomed over 1 400 runners to the different distances offered.
Partnering organisations involved in the race included Mad Monkey Adventures, Athletics Gauteng North, Irene Athletics Club, Seek Security, Discovery Vitality, aQuelle, Oasis and many more.
Participants could run the 5km, 10 km or 21.1km distance.
The 10km and 21km race winners received cash prizes of R500 and R750, respectively, among other prizes offered to runners in different categories.

Geloofsfamilie’s full-time pastor, Anandie Greyling, says the church decided to organise the run to bring the active community together.
“This community is very active actually. We have a night run every year with Mad Monkey during the last week of August which had great attendance last year and the year before. So we said, let’s do a half marathon at the beginning of the year. People run the routes of Pierre van Ryneveld quite often and we’re known for our running clubs – it’s something between health and fun.”

Members of the TMPD and Pierre Van Ryneveld CPF were along the routes to ensure the race went smoothly. Toyota provided the lead car for the runners to follow.
Greyling says the church is looking forward to holding its annual night run in August and Dorp Fees in the same week.
