Garsfontein CPF shares 2025 safety initiatives

The CPF core plans include quarterly Imbizo events open to the public, community participation, improved communication and more crime awareness.

The CPF in Garsfontein, east of Pretoria is aiming for improvement this year, including building stronger partnerships to keep the community safe.

Chairperson Aris Ruyter told Rekord that the vision is to build stronger communities to keep everyone safe.

“We are committed to fostering meaningful partnerships and launching effective safety initiatives across all sectors to ensure that our residents feel protected, supported and valued,” he said.

He explained that the CPF’s plans are centred around fostering stronger community partnerships and launching effective safety measures, decreasing crime rates and giving criminals a hard time.

Ruyter said a core part of their efforts includes quarterly Imbizo events, open to the public.

“In Imbizo events we will raise Crime Awareness, share detailed analyses of crime trends specific to our areas and highlight the importance of situational awareness and proactive crime prevention.”

He said the CPF aims to empower the community on crime, prevention and safety.

“Educating our residents on securing their homes and neighbourhoods effectively will help in the fight against crime and we aim to provide practical tools and strategies for crime prevention.”

He said promoting participation is key to keeping communities safe.

“We will continue encouraging residents to join CPF public groups within their sectors and showcase how CPF collaborates with SAPS, private security and community stakeholders.”

Ruyter added that the CPF is looking at enhancing the establishment of committees in various suburbs.

“As part of our plans, we have established key committees to address various safety needs and strengthen our CPF’s functionality.”

The committees include:

– Crime Prevention: Focused on proactive crime reduction strategies.
– Patrol Co-ordination: Enhancing and streamlining community patrols.
– Victim Empowerment: Supporting victims of crime with resources and guidance.
– Youth Desk: Engaging and educating the youth about crime prevention.
– Criminal Justice System: Facilitating better understanding and co-operation with the justice system.
– Training and Development: Equipping CPF members and the community with essential skills and knowledge.
– Technology and Data: Using technology to improve crime prevention and data-driven decisions.

He said aspects for improvement and plans include community involvement.

“Increasing participation by organising localised safety campaigns and offering residents clear roles within these committees will improve participation and whole-society-approach.”

He said the sharing of intel and knowledge will be improved.

“We aim to equip the community with detailed crime insights and proactive measures through committee-led workshops and the Imbizo events.”

He said security prioritisation is part of the plans.

“Promoting the importance of personal and collective security initiatives while leveraging the expertise of the committees and collaboration with SAPS, private security, and community leaders, with the committees taking a central role in implementation and follow-up actions.”

He said by integrating these committees into their efforts, alongside the quarterly Imbizo, they aim to create a safer, better-informed, and more unified community in 2025.

Ruyter urged those without access to local CPF groups to join the Alpha Security Forum by contacting him directly on 083 652 6774.
