Indaba to reignite capital city’s tourism growth

Tourism in Pretoria’s focus in 2025 will be on growth and safety, two themes that will be explored during a tourism indaba.

The main focus of the Tshwane Tourism Association (TTA) in 2025 will be the growth of the tourism industry in the capital city and the safety of visitors and tourists.

The TTA will present a tourism indaba to more than 200 of its members including hotels, guesthouses, tour operators as well as meeting and event venue owners and restauranteurs.

The sixth Annual Tshwane Tourism Showcase, an exhibition and conference, will take place at the CSIR International Convention Centre on January 23 from 12:00.

TTA deputy chairperson Susan Marais told Rekord that in 2024 Tshwane was marketed as “the wildest capital city in the world” and they will give feedback on this campaign at the indaba.

The TTA is a private sector non-profit body that provides promotional and networking opportunities to industry players and other stakeholders.

The Tshwane Tourism Association will discuss the fruits that were reaped from a guide that was launched by the Association in 2024 at their January 2025 indaba.

“It is a new year with lots of opportunities. We did an unbelievable lot of work in 2024 with programmes and projects to ensure the safety of tourists, visitors as well as residents. We also worked hard on the marketing of our amazing offer of tourism products by way of the Tshwane Guide. We believe the industry will reap the rewards of this hard work,” she said.

She said new relationships with industry role players were formed at last year’s indaba and opportunities for co-operation were created.

“We are excited to build on these relationships in 2025,” she said.

There is also a surprise in store for the industry.

“We are working hard on a new initiative which focuses on giving recognition to excellence in our city and industry. Watch this space.”

Various members of the TTA will be present to showcase their products at the indaba, including Adventure Zone, Bill Harrop Balloon Safaris, Dinokeng and Mangwanani.

The association is expecting more than 400 guests to attend the indaba showcasing more than 60 products.

“We are extremely excited about the future of tourism in our city. The key to success lies in presenting safe world-class products to residents and visitors,” believes Marais.

Industry leader on change, Dimakatso Malelwa, will deliver the keynote address on how to unlock tourism potential.
