Three arrested in hijacked vehicle in Central

The vehicle the suspects were travelling in was linked to a hijacking in Hillbrow, Johannesburg.

Three suspects believed to be linked to several hijacking cases in Pretoria were arrested recently in the CBD.

The three men were arrested whilst driving a stolen VW GTI and were in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Provincial police members arrested the trio on January 14. The vehicle was linked to a hijacking case in Hillbrow, Johannesburg.

“Operations, and ICB Insurance Crime Bureau, collaborated and went on a search for the suspects. A suspicious vehicle, with three occupants, was spotted in Pretoria Central. The team stopped the vehicle and searched all occupants. A firearm and a large amount of ammunition were found in their possession. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle driven by the suspects was reported to be hijacked in Hillbrow and fitted with false registration plates,” said police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in due course on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle.
