Corruption case against former speaker postponed to March
Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is facing 12 counts of corruption and one count of money laundering, related to her tenure as the former minister of defence.

Pretoria High Court on January 20 postponed the corruption and money laundering case of the former Speaker of Parliament, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, to March 28.
This decision was made to allow her lawyers to meet with and discuss with the prosecutors what the state can disclose.
Mapisa-Nqakula’s lawyers seek disclosures of sections B and C of the investigation docket.
Section B is correspondence, while Section C is the investigation diary.
Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) spokesperson Henry Mathomane said this approach was taken in the interest of justice.
“This was done to narrow the facts and issues so that the matter can be moved to trial as soon as possible.”
Mathomane also confirmed that Mapisa-Nqakula’s R50 000 bail has been extended until her next court appearance.
Mapisa-Nqakula is facing 12 counts of corruption and one of money laundering, related to her tenure as the Minister of Defence (DoD) between 2016 and 2019.
She is alleged to have solicited and received approximately bribes worth R4.5-million, whereby R2.1-million was in cash from Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu, whose company was contracted to the DoD.
The IDAC raided her Johannesburg home in March last year, which triggered speculation of imminent arrest.
