Lack of action over four-month water leak outrages Heatherdale resident

According to Andre Brink the water has been flowing at a high rate, with a secondary leak now developing further down the road.

A resident in the north of Pretoria has raised concerns over a persistent water leak in the Heatherdale Agricultural Holdings area, which has been left unfixed for over four months.

Andre Brink said millions of litres of water have been wasted, despite urgent calls to address the situation.

The leak, located on Boundary Road between John Street and First Avenue, has worsened over time, causing damage to the road and raising alarm about the metro’s water conservation efforts.

According to Brink, several residents have also reported the leak since September last year, but little to no action has been taken by the metro.

Brink said the water has been flowing at a high rate, with a secondary leak now developing further down the road.

“I usually take morning walks in the area and one day when I took a different route, I noticed the water leak. The inaction is unacceptable.

“We constantly hear about water shortages, yet this leak has been reported for months with no resolution. It’s a disgrace and needs urgent attention because the road is eroding and it’s frustrating to see such a critical issue being ignored,” said Brink.

The water leak has left residents in the area frustrated.

He said he contacted Tshwane multiple times, but each time it felt like he was ignored.

“How much more water needs to be wasted before action is taken?”

Brink said the constant flow of water has made the road unsafe for motorists and pedestrians.

He added that the leak has created challenges for people in the area, as it is not only wasteful but also damaging the infrastructure.

With increasing water shortages and conservation efforts being emphasised across the metro, Brink is calling on the municipality to take more response action in maintaining infrastructure and addressing issues like the Heatherdale water leak promptly.

The metro had yet to provide comment on this issue by the time of going to press.
