Metro reservoirs stable after water infrastructure maintenance

During the 24-hour shutdown, the city's water and sanitation team completed modifications to the Laudium and Atteridgeville HL systems.

Reservoirs across the metro have stabilised following a recent scheduled shutdown of Rand Water’s 02 Pipeline from January 25 to 26 this past weekend.

The 24-hour shutdown was part of Rand Water’s efforts to maintain its Palmiet System, which supplies several reservoirs in the city, including one in Laudium.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo announced last week that the shutdown would lead to possible low water pressure or dry taps in some areas.

He said that the metro’s water and sanitation department would take proactive measures which included filling reservoirs in advance and ensuring optimal functioning of water sources.

MMC for Utility Services, Frans Boshielo has confirmed that during this period the city’s water and sanitation team completed modifications to the Laudium and Atteridgeville HL systems.

He said these upgrades included the rehabilitation of an existing 500mm pipeline and an additional connection line that will supply the Atteridgeville HL Reservoir.

“With these upgrades, both of these reservoirs will now benefit from dual water supply lines.

“This will serve as a backup in the future in case there are any supply issues with one of the pipelines,” he said.

Boshielo expressed his gratitude to the Water and Sanitation Department for its efforts during this critical period.

“As the MMC for Utility Services, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to councillors and the community for their collaboration in using water resources responsibly during this period.”

He applauded the efforts of the staff members from the department for their diligence in maintaining stable levels at water reservoirs throughout the weekend.

“This administration will strive to ignite service excellence,” he added.
