Man shot dead after stabbing police officer in Pretoria Central
The officer was stabbed as he was confronting the suspect and in defence, allegedly shot the suspect who was later certified dead.
A man was fatally wounded after stabbing a police officer at a liquor outlet on Lilian Ngoyi Street in Pretoria Central on Tuesday, February 11.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said police received a complaint of a man threatening patrons with a knife at the liquor outlet.
Masondo said police responded and were shown the suspect.
“It is alleged that as the police officer was confronting the suspect, he took out a knife and stabbed the officer,” Masondo said.
It was reported that in defence, the officer shot the suspect, who fell down and was later certified dead.
“The injured police officer was taken to the nearest medical care centre for medical attention.”
Masondo said the case will be transferred to the Independent Police Investigation Directorate for further investigation.
