Organisation donates winter clothes to local learners

Warm winter clothes and school uniforms were gifted to underprivileged families in Mamelodi on Monday.

The generous donations were made by a Good Samaritan from the community in support of the work the Tsalanang organisation is doing for the neighbourhood.

The chairperson of the organisation Tshepo Ramoncha said the organisation was recently formed to uplift the community by dealing with social issues.

Ramoncha said the donor, who wished to remain anonymous, is also a parent at Funzo Ndi Tshedza primary school where the organisation helped learners with the Back-to-school campaign earlier this year.

“The community received warm clothes for winter and school uniforms.

This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting those in need and fostering a spirit of generosity,” said Ramoncha.

The families were identified by the members of the organisation.

Tsalanang is a non-profit organisation formed in March last year and has already made its mark by covering school books and making sure that underprivileged children get new school shoes.

The organisation’s main aim is to uplift the community and unemployed youth.

One of the beneficiaries, Andrena Mhlongo from Phomolong in Mamelodi said the generous donation came at the right time.
Mhlongo said the clothes will keep her and her children warm, and encouraged the organisation to continue doing a good job of helping families who are struggling to put food on the table.

Ramoncha said Tsalanang want to make friends with the community, schools, youth, local organisations, and businesses.

“Our mission is to bring change within our community by helping disadvantaged families with food parcels and making sure schoolchildren have what they need to go to school,” said Ramoncha.

“The organisation was started after observing many families were struggling, children going to school with torn school uniforms, some without uniform, and the youth slowly dying from drug abuse, HIV, and teenage pregnancies.”

He said the organisation is based in Mamelodi East Ext 6 and aims to bring hope to the community. “We have lined up a lot of activities that will uplift and give hope to the community of Mamelodi.”

Other community projects the organisation is busy with include raising awareness of bullying and drugs as well as encouraging learners to follow their dreams undistracted by their unfortunate background and poverty.

The organisation desperately needs sponsorship for uniforms, sanitary pads, and toiletries.

Tsalanang has also partnered with other organisations in Mamelodi to help schoolchildren and the community.
