Desperate search continues for missing 68-year-old Pretoria West man
The family has hired a private investigator to assist with the search.
Family and police continue their search for the missing 68-year-old Pretoria West man who went missing almost a month ago.
Saminathan Pillai, also known as Gary (68), was last heard from on March 10.
He was reportedly last seen leaving his home in Elandspoort on a Tuesday morning on his black and white scooter.
His daughter-in-law, Nickayla Broodryk told Rekord this week that the family is having a difficult time coping without him.
“The past few weeks have been very difficult for us. As the days and weeks go by and we count them, it is becoming harder because we don’t know what to prepare ourselves for.
“We are in a state of mind that we need to remain united as a family because that is where we find our strength to hold on and get through another day.”
She said the family has hired a private investigator to help in the search for her father-in-law.
“His involvement is really a blessing because in all of this darkness, we have gotten quick results and he is working well with the police.
“The SAPS investigating officer has also been so amazing and keeps supporting and communicating with us.”
Broodryk said Saminathan would always let them know when he went out, and his outings were never for long.
A few days after he went missing when the family called his number, an unknown man answered.
She said the family appreciates the support they have been receiving from friends, colleagues and everyone involved in the search.
“We are praying that everyone’s effort results in locating and bringing him home safely.”
Rekord reached out to SAPS, however, they had not commented by the time of publishing.
Previously police spokesperson, Captain Johan van Dyk confirmed that on March 17 a missing person case was opened at Pretoria West police station.
He said the matter was under investigation.
