Deadly CIT shootout leaves four dead, two officers wounded
A deadly CIT shootout in Soshanguve left four dead and two officers wounded as police arrested nine suspects.
A deadly shootout following a cash-in-transit robbery in Soshanguve left four people dead — including a bystander — and two police officers wounded, as nine suspects were arrested after a high-speed chase and gun battle.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the CIT- robbery occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Soutpan Road in the Soshanguve area.
“It is alleged that a cash in transit van was blocked by about three vehicles, and a number of armed suspects came out, powering the crew and bombed the cash van.
“As they fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, the members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) responded, and a chase ensued.”
Nevhuhulwi said the suspects fired shots at the members, who retaliated.
“During the shooting out, a bystander was killed as well as three of the suspects, and six plus the three injured suspects were arrested.”
He added that two of the members sustained gunshot wounds and were admitted to the hospital for medical treatment.
“The police also seized three vehicles, a Toyota bakkie, Cherry and Haval vehicle, which are believed to have been used in the commission of a crime. They further recovered five rifles. Police investigations continue.”
