Tshwane police give praise with community ahead of Easter holiday
The pre-Easter ceremony served to strengthen trust and unity between the SAPS and Soshanguve community members.
Tshwane police have strengthened unity and trust within the local community in a pre-Easter church service in the north.
SAPS officers from the Tshwane District, together with spiritual leaders from different denominations, gathered at Revival Baptist Church in Soshanguve with the local community to celebrate the annual Easter Church Service on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk said the spiritual gathering forms part of an essential tradition within the SAPS aimed at fostering unity, faith and hope among members and the community it serves.
“Spiritual leaders, including pastors, reverends, and SAPS chaplains, led the proceedings by delivering powerful messages of grace, love, peace, and resilience – reflecting the true spirit of Easter.”
He said the purpose of the ceremony was to also give every SAPS official and member an opportunity to attend a church service ahead of Easter operations that will be taking place during the holiday.
“They will be deployed over the Easter weekend in different parts of the district to make sure that citizens are safe during this period.
“It was a chance to strengthen our relationship and stand united with the local community in a church and give praise and be thankful for blessings.”
An official Easter message was delivered by Brigadier Rapitsi on behalf of District Commissioner, Major-General Samuel Thine.
“He conveyed the district commissioner’s warm Easter wishes to all present and expressed sincere appreciation to the SAPS Employee Health and Wellness Spiritual Services, as well as all participating religious leaders, for their role in making the event a success,” said Van Dyk.
He said Rapitsi emphasised that the service not only provides spiritual support to SAPS members who will be deployed on operational duties during the Easter period but it also serves as a reminder that through unity and collaboration between the police and the community, any challenge can be overcome.
“The SAPS remains committed to working hand in hand with our communities. This Easter service is a demonstration of our dedication to building and maintaining strong partnerships based on respect, trust, and shared values. Together, we can overcome any obstacle and continue striving for safer communities,” concluded Rapitsi.
