48-hour water maintenance in Pretoria east coming in May
The work scheduled for the upgrading of the reservoir is on May 6 – 7.
The Tshwane metro has cautioned residents about a planned water supply interruption that will affect the Eersterust community and several surrounding areas.
The interruption is scheduled from May 6 – 7 and is attributed to the upgrading of reservoir infrastructure.
Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the maintenance work will commence at 07:00 on May 6 and is anticipated to last for 48 hours.
He said all supplying reservoirs will be filled to capacity before the shutdown.
The following areas may experience water supply interruptions:
– Derdepoort 326-JR
– Derdepoortpark Ext 2
– Despatch
– Eersterust
– Eersterust Ext 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
– Hartebeespoort 328-JR
– Jan Niemandpark
– Mamelodi Ext 13
– Silvertondale
– Silvertondale Ext 1 and 2
– Waltloo.
“Tshwane sincerely apologises for the inconvenience that may be encountered during this planned water interruption,” said Mashigo.
Residents are urged to make use of the following water-saving tips:
– Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
– Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.
– Do not fill swimming pools.
– Use grey water to water gardens and flush toilets.
– Report water leaks, burst pipes and all incidents where water is wasted.
– Install water-saving devices, where possible.
Residents are also urged to make water conservation tips part of their everyday lives post-maintenance work:
– Install a low-flow shower head and tap aerators where possible.
– Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
– Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.
– Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
– Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or to wash the car.
– Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.
– Take a shower rather than a bath.
– Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.
– Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.
