Kameeldrift CPF and Build It Derdepark fix dangerous pothole

Local volunteers and a hardware store join forces to repair a road hazard left behind after water pipe repairs.

On Sunday, October 18, the Kameeldrift Community Policing Forum (CPF), supported by Build It Derdepark and local volunteers, repaired a dangerous road hazard on Kameeldrift Road left behind after utility maintenance.

Build It Derdepark donated six bags of ready-mixed tar and two bags of ready-mix concrete to help repair the damaged section of road, which workers had not properly restored after repairing a water pipe.

The donation enabled CPF members to step in and fix the hazard, highlighting how local businesses and community structures can collaborate to improve neighbourhood safety.

Kameeldrift CPF representative Erika Lingenfelder said the contribution from Build It Derdepark and the efforts of volunteers demonstrated the importance of community involvement in addressing local challenges.

The initiative brought together people willing to contribute their time, resources and skills to improve conditions for fellow residents.

Road damage follows utility repairs

According to the CPF, the pothole formed after a water pipe repair, but the road was not restored to its original condition.

The resulting damage prompted community members to take action to make the affected section safer for motorists and other road users.

Rather than leaving the problem unattended, CPF members volunteered their time and effort to carry out the repair, supported by materials supplied by the business.

Resident welcomes community action

Resident Olivier Braam welcomed the initiative, saying it was encouraging to see community members and local businesses working together to address problems affecting residents.

“When road damage is left behind after repairs, it is the people who use that road every day who have to deal with the consequences,” said Braam. “It is good to see the community taking initiative and a local business stepping forward to help. We need more of this kind of co-operation to make Kameeldrift a safer place for everyone.”

Lingenfelder said the initiative also highlights how relatively small contributions can make a difference when businesses and community organisations work towards a shared goal.

Partnership sets local example

The CPF thanked Build It Derdepark for donating materials and the members who gave up their time to complete the work.

The forum said the collaboration was an example of what could be achieved when residents, businesses and community structures joined forces to improve their surroundings.

“Residents depend on safe and properly maintained roads, and incomplete repairs can leave hazards that affect daily travel,” said Lingenfelder.

The Kameeldrift CPF’s initiative serves as an example of community participation in action, demonstrating how local partnerships can address practical problems while promoting safer roads.
