Two arrested for robbery after high-speed chase
The escape vehicle is linked to multiple robbery cases across the metro.
Hercules SAPS members recently arrested two people for possession of suspected stolen property after a vehicle pursuit in Claremont, Pretoria West.
SAPS members were on official patrol duty on May 5 around 07:00 when they were informed of an armed robbery in Sannie Street, Hercules. The suspects were described as four men travelling in a silver-grey Suzuki vehicle.
“While en route to the crime scene, SAPS members spotted the suspect vehicle, and a high-speed chase ensued. The suspects attempted to evade arrest by driving recklessly across both lanes of Bremer Street, heading toward the R80 freeway,” said spokesperson, Captain Johan van Dyk.
The police were assisted by Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officers, who blocked the escape route on Bremer Street.
The suspects collided with an SAPS vehicle, after which two men fled on foot. The remaining two suspects were apprehended by SAPS members.
“A search of the vehicle revealed that it was fitted with false number plates. The original number plates and four-wheel caps were found in the boot. Preliminary investigation also indicated that the vehicle belonged to a rental company,” Van Dyk said.
Inside the vehicle, officers found four wallets and a backpack containing several cellphones.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been involved in several robberies across multiple police precincts, especially three earlier in the morning in Sunnyside, Pretoria Central.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon, and residents with any information regarding the fugitives are urged to contact the authorities.
