Contractor transition causes waste disposal delays
The city employed new service providers, but unfortunately, the permit to transport the equipment was for weekdays only.
Tshwane has warned residents about slight delays in its waste disposal operations.
The delays, which started on May 1, are attributed to the transition process from an old to a new contractor.
According to metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo, the tender to supply yellow plant and equipment for operations and maintenance of waste disposal facilities expired on April 30.

“To replace the lapsed tender, the city has appointed new service providers under the incoming tender, which came into effect on May 1,” he said.
He said to ensure continuity of waste management service, the city embarked on a process of engaging new service providers to supply the new equipment at various waste disposal sites.
“The said equipment had to be transported from the suppliers to respective sites by the newly appointed service providers,” Mashigo said.
He said this process included obtaining the necessary permits required for transporting such equipment.
“Unfortunately, the transportation permit obtained from the Road Traffic Regulating Authority authorised the transportation of the equipment on weekdays only, hence, there was a delay in the delivery over the long weekend,” Mashigo explained.
He said plans are in place to ensure all outstanding equipment is delivered by Thursday.
“However, all refuse disposal sites are operational and still accept waste. Residents will be advised accordingly on developments,” said Mashigo.
He said Tshwane apologises for any inconvenience that may arise as a result of this unforeseen delay in operations.
