Minor setback during Hartebeeshoek Reservoir maintenance
The water supply through the bypass was affected and necessitated a complete shutdown.
Rand Water’s maintenance work on the Hartebeeshoek Reservoir hit a snag during the initial stages.
“During the initial stages of draining the reservoir, Rand Water encountered a challenge which affected water supply through the bypass,” said metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba.
Bokaba explained that this necessitated the complete shutdown of the water supply via the bypass, which inevitably led to the depletion of the Mabopane, Soshanguve, Ga-Rankuwa and Winterveldt reservoirs.
“Maintenance work is progressing expeditiously, and water is expected to be reinstated in the afternoon of July 11. Supply of water via the bypass will continue throughout the weekend but will be stopped on July 14,” he said.
Bokaba emphasised that this is to allow the replacement and installation of the valve to commence unhindered.
“Water tankers will continue to be dispatched during the supply interruption period.”
He said Rand Water and the Tshwane metro sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate the affected residents’ understanding and co-operation during this difficult period.

The Hartebeeshoek Reservoir supplies water to large parts of Region 1.
The overall maintenance work is estimated to be completed by Friday.
According to the metro, Rand Water is continuing with the critical cleaning and inspection of the reservoir.
