Armed robbers ransack home and flee with goods in Meyerspark
Three armed suspects broke into a Meyerspark home, holding the resident at gunpoint before escaping with a luxury vehicle and other items, estimated to be over R800 000. The police have launched an investigation.
Police in Silverton are investigating a case of armed robbery after three suspects robbed a Meyerspark resident and made off with a luxury vehicle and valuables.
According to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Marinda Austin, a Meyerspark resident was left traumatised after falling victim to a violent house robbery in the early hours of July 15.
Austin said the incident occurred around 04:00 at a residence on Erasmus Street.
“Three unknown armed suspects entered the victim’s house and proceeded to his bedroom while he was asleep.” They held him up at gunpoint.
She said the suspects ordered the complainant to lie face down on the floor and covered his face with a blanket.
“They then demanded access to his cellphone banking apps and forced him to transfer R3 500 to their own phone.”
Austin added that the suspects proceeded to ransack the home, taking several high-value items, valued at over R800 000.
The stolen items include:
– A grey BMW 5 Series
– A 50-inch Samsung TV
– A Lenovo laptop
– A Samsung Z Fold smartphone
– A black PVR PlayStation
– A DVD player
– A platinum wedding ring
– A wallet with bank cards and cash.
Austin said that after the suspects ransacked the house, they loaded the goods into the victim’s BMW and fled the scene.
“No injuries were reported, and the victim, who was alone at the time of the incident, is receiving support.”
She said police have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with information that could assist to come forward.
“Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to SAPS immediately.”
Community members have taken to local social platforms to express concern that the same suspects involved in the armed robbery on Erasmus Street may also be behind a string of recent housebreaking attempts in the area.
Resident Andelle Schenach shared that two men attempted to break into her home just before 04:00 on the same morning as the robbery.
“Fortunately, security responded within minutes, but the suspects managed to get away,” she said, adding that shortly after this, the house next to hers was broken into.
