Murder accused in court after woman’s charred remains found
The accused briefly appeared at the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on Monday. His case was postponed for a bail application on August 6.
A man is expected to appear at the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on August 6 for a bail application in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old woman.
The man is facing a charge of murder after Sibongile Hadebe’s charred body was discovered near her residence in Mamelodi East.
The accused briefly appeared in court on July 28 following his arrest at Colenso in KwaZula-Natal on July 23, according to the senior prosecutor, Advocate Anne-Marie Bendeman.
Bendeman said the accused briefly appeared at the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Before Hadebe’s body was discovered, she was reported missing at the Mamelodi Police Station. She was last seen on May 19.
Earlier this month, police confirmed that the burnt body found on June 3 in Mamelodi was that of Hadebe after DNA tests were concluded.
Her charred remains were found near her residence three days after she was reported missing by her brother.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Marinda Austin has urged residents to report incidents of gender-based and domestic violence.
“Break the silence and come forward as soon as it happens. Furthermore, refrain from withdrawing cases once they are opened. As the SAPS, we are continuously having awareness campaigns together with different stakeholders, and to give support to victims of abuse,” said Austin.
