Pyramid substation upgrade to affect over 60 areas

Numerous residential and industrial areas reliant on the Pyramid and associated substations will experience the outage.

The Tshwane metro has issued a notice of two major electricity supply interruptions scheduled for two upcoming Sundays, as part of critical upgrades to the 132kV Pyramid Substation and its interconnected network.

The metro’s energy and electricity business unit will carry out technical work to connect 132kV post insulators and busbars on the southern section of the Pyramid Substation yard on Sunday, August 10, from 08:00 to 17:00.

The following areas supplied by Pretoria North, Wonderboom, and Wolmer Substations will be without power during the nine-hour shutdown:

– SL Powerline
– Annlin West
– Wonderboom Junction Mall
– BA Powerline
– GV Powerline
– P Powerline
– Onderstepoort
– Bon Accord
– Pyramid Area
– Doornpoort
– Wonderboom
– Magalieskruin
– Wonderboom Airport
– Klerksoord Industrial and Residential Area
– Kolonnade Crossing Centre
– Pretoria North
– Tileba
– Wonderboom North
– Dorandia
– Florauna
– Clarina
– Wolmer
– Heatherdale
– Eldorette
– Nina Park
– Winternest
– Theresa Park
– Heatherview
– Wonderboom Military Area.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigho also confirmed that the main upgrade to the 132kV Pyramid Substation, initially planned for August 10, has now been rescheduled to August 17.

Mashigo said the shutdown will last 10 hours, from 08:00 until 18:00, and will involve the connection of newly installed 132kV post insulators and busbars on the northern section of the Pyramid Substation yard.

This upgrade will affect several areas supplied by the Pyramid, Pumulani, Waltloo, and Koedoespoort Substations. The full list includes:

The metro urged all residents to treat every electrical point as live during the shutdowns, even in the absence of power, as a precautionary safety measure.

“These scheduled outages are necessary to enhance grid stability and long-term service delivery across the metro.

“The municipality regrets any inconvenience caused and thanks residents and businesses for their patience as it undertakes these critical upgrades to secure and modernise Tshwane’s electricity network,” said Mashigo.
