Highveld faces day-long water shutdown on Wednesday
The work is scheduled on a pipeline at the corner of Panfluit Street and Olievenhoutbosch Road and is expected to last for 10 hours.
The Tshwane metro has urged Centurion residents to prepare for a planned water supply interruption in the Highveld area on August 13.
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the city’s water and sanitation business unit will upgrade a pipeline in the supply network at the corner of Panfluit Street and Olievenhoutbosch Road.
He said the work will take place on Wednesday, August 13 from 08:00 to 18:00.
“The maintenance may affect water supply to several Highveld extensions, including 8, 11, 43, 51, 52, 53, 59, 67, 69, 70, 71, 75, 110, 111, 112, 113, 132, and 140, as well as to the Eco Boulevard Shopping Centre and Bidvest Protea Coin,” he said.
Mashigo apologised for any inconvenience caused by the planned work and urged residents to observe water-saving measures during the interruption.
He reminded residents not to water gardens using hosepipes or sprinklers between 06:00 and 18:00, to avoid washing vehicles with hosepipes, and not to fill swimming pools during the day.
“Instead, residents are encouraged to use grey water for watering gardens and flushing toilets where possible.”
Communities are also urged to report water leaks, burst pipes, or any incidents of water wastage and to consider installing water-saving devices.
Mashigo provided the following water conservation tips to help residents reduce water usage during and beyond the planned interruption:
– Install a low-flow showerhead and tap aerators, where possible.
– Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
– Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.
– Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
– Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or to wash the car.
– Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.
– Take a quick shower rather than a bath.
