Sinoville CPF crackdown sees armed suspects caught red-handed

Proshield Security deployed its drone unit, which tracked the suspects and pinpointed the team directly to their location.

A co-ordinated crime prevention operation in Montana during the early hours of Wednesday morning resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of two illegal firearms.

Authorities described it as a major success in the fight against crime in the area.

The joint operation, led by the Sinoville CPF in partnership with Sinoville police and private security companies, Proshield and Prosec, was conducted on March 18.

This follows a spike in reported house robberies in the Sinoville policing precinct.

According to the Sinoville CPF Public Relations Officer Ammi Klingenberg, the successful arrest came after a vigilant community member spotted suspicious activity and reported it.

“Three suspects entered a residential complex in Montana.

“We are extremely grateful to an alert CPF member who, at 01:33, acted swiftly and reported the suspicious activity over the radio network,” she said.

The swift communication triggered an immediate response from CPF members on the ground.

Within minutes, law enforcement and security partners arrived at the scene and established a perimeter around the complex.

“A systematic search of the area was then conducted. At 02:25, all three suspects were successfully apprehended, and two firearms were recovered,” added Klingenberg.

Police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk confirmed that the operation formed part of a broader strategy to clamp down on house robberies in the area.

“The operational team comprised members of Sinoville SAPS, the Sinoville Community Policing Forum, Prosec and Proshield Security companies. The team was conducting patrols in the Sinoville policing area following an increase in reported house robberies,” he said.

Van Dyk further revealed that the multidisciplinary team had been actively working behind the scenes in recent weeks.

“This team has followed up on information, gathered intelligence, and compiled a database relating to house robberies in the area,” he explained.

He said technology also played a crucial role in the success of the operation as the Proshield Security deployed its drone unit, which tracked the suspects and guided officers directly to their location.

“Upon searching the suspects, members found housebreaking implements as well as two illegal firearms in their possession.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects may be linked to other criminal activities in the area.”

Van Dyk said the recovered firearms will now undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in the commission of other crimes.

Both the CPF and SAPS highlighted the importance of community involvement in ensuring safer neighbourhoods.

Klingenberg emphasised that the success of the operation demonstrates the value of active citizen participation.

“This success once again highlights the critical importance of the community acting as the eyes and ears, working together with SAPS and private security partners to enhance safety and combat crime,” she said.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and to actively participate in community safety initiatives, including joining their local CPF, as authorities continue efforts to curb crime in the area.
