Prolonged power outage to hit Rosslyn homes and industries
The maintenance entails installing and testing the electrical components of the K3 Substation.
Residents and businesses in Rosslyn are set to experience a prolonged power outage after the Tshwane metro extended a planned electricity shutdown to 40 hours due to the complexity of the work involved.
According to metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo, the Energy and Electricity Business Unit will shut down power supply to the 132/11kV K3 Substation from 08:00 on March 21 until midnight on March 22.
The shutdown was initially scheduled to take place over two days for 12 hours at a time, from 08:00 to 20:00.
Mashigo said the metro was compelled to revise the plan to a continuous 40-hour interruption to meet safety requirements and accommodate the complexity of the work.
“Due to the complexity and safety requirements of the work, the city was compelled to change the planned 12 hours on each day to a 40-hour shutdown,” said Mashigo.
During this period, technicians will carry out the installation, testing and commissioning of electrical components within the substation.
The work forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the long-term safety and reliability of electricity infrastructure in the Rosslyn Industrial Area.
The areas expected to be affected include Nkwe Estates, Rosslyn Gardens, the Automotive Supply Park and the Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC).
Residents and businesses are urged to treat all electricity supply points as live at all times during the outage.
To report power outages, consumers can contact the metro’s Customer Care Centre on 012 358 9999 and select option 3, or send an SMS with the word ‘power’ followed by their account number to 082 612 0333 or 44676.
The metro has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the planned interruption.
