Burglary suspects caught hiding in Claremont roof
A vigilant neighbour’s quick action led to the arrest of two suspects who were found hiding inside a residential property.
Two suspects were arrested after they were found hiding in the roof during a house break-in on March 30 in Claremont, west of Pretoria.
The arrest came about on Malie Street on Monday afternoon due to the swift response by a private security company and the police.
According to a statement released by ProShield Tactical on Monday at 14:00, they were alerted by a vigilant neighbour who noticed suspicious activity at a residential property.
Upon arrival, the response team conducted a search of the premises and discovered that the suspects had allegedly gained entry by forcing open a burglar bar at a rear window.
During the search, it was established that the suspects were hiding in the roof of the property.
“Members entered the roof space and successfully apprehended both suspects,” the ProShield statement read.
The suspects had allegedly stolen electrical wiring from the premises. Copper electrical cables were recovered during the operation.
ProShield also added that by the time the suspects were brought down from the roof, Hercules police officers had arrived on the scene and managed the situation.
“Both suspects were detained and formally arrested by SAPS,” Proshield reported.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
SAPS has been approached for comment, and their response will be included once received.
