New Moot station commander promises integrity drive and tougher anti-corruption stance
Colonel Gert Corbett pledges to improve safety through increased patrols in crime hotspots and direct engagement with the public. Residents have been encouraged to report suspicious activity and participate in local safety initiatives.
Residents of Pretoria Moot can expect a renewed focus on safety and community engagement following the appointment of a new station commander at the local police station.
Colonel Gert Corbett, the newly appointed station commander of Pretoria Moot Police Station, has outlined his commitment to improving policing efforts and building stronger relationships with the community.
“I assume this responsibility with a firm commitment to serving you, ensuring your safety, and strengthening the trust between this station and the community we serve,” said Corbett.
Corbett’s appointment signals what he describes as a new chapter in the fight against crime in the area. He emphasised that effective policing cannot be achieved by the SAPS alone but requires collaboration with residents and local structures.
“I recognise that effective policing cannot be achieved by SAPS in isolation; it requires a proactive partnership with residents, businesses, community leaders, and the CPF,” he said.
His appointment follows broader developments within the Tshwane district, where several SAPS officers were promoted during a ceremony held in Paarl on March 10. The officers were formally introduced at the Tshwane district during a District Crime Combating Forum (DCCF), highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership and crime-fighting capacity within the district.
Among his key priorities is increasing police visibility in areas identified as crime hotspots, to improve response times and reassure residents.
“Increasing our presence in crime hotspots will ensure that law-abiding citizens feel safe, and that our officers respond swiftly to emergency calls,” he said.
Corbett has also introduced an open-door policy, encouraging community members to engage directly with him and his team regarding concerns about safety and service delivery.
“I hold an open-door policy. I encourage residents to engage with me and my team regarding any concerns, suggestions, or complaints about service delivery,” he said.
Strengthening collaboration with the CPF also forms a central part of his approach. He noted that working closely with the CPF would help implement targeted crime prevention programmes and improve communication between police and the community.
“I will work closely with the CPF to implement targeted crime prevention programmes and ensure better communication between police and residents,” he said.
In addition to focusing on crime prevention, Corbett stressed the importance of accountability within the police service itself, adopting a firm stance against corruption.
“I am committed to fighting crime, which includes ensuring that our own station adheres to the highest standards of integrity and service professionalism,” he said.
He further urged community members to play an active role in maintaining safety by reporting suspicious activity and participating in local initiatives.
“I urge you to report any suspicious activity immediately and to participate in local CPF structures and safety initiatives. Together, we can make our community a place where criminals find no comfort,” said Corbett.
The newly appointed station commander indicated that he plans to engage with various community stakeholders in the coming weeks as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and trust.
“I look forward to meeting with various community stakeholders in the coming weeks. Let us work together to make Pretoria Moot a safer place,” concluded Corbett.
