From Limpopo roots to Pretoria stages, Queen Vee finds her sound

A young Pretoria-based artist has released a self-titled EP that balances feeling and rhythm. The lekompo-infused project blends Afro sounds with emotional storytelling, offering songs that speak softly in places while still calling people to dance.

CBD-based artist, Mmaphuti Valencia Ngoepe, known as ‘Ke Queen Vee’, says that her new self-titled EP aims to inspire listeners with her sound.

The young songstress, originally from Limpopo, says that she has been making her rounds in the music industry since she started making music at a young age.

With this EP, Queen Vee hopes to introduce listeners to her journey, growth, and voice.

“This release for me is the beginning of the greater good. I plan to push the EP as far as possible. I am talking more visuals, pushing content that is aligned to my story. I am looking forward to performing on big stages and connecting with my audience. I’m also working on new music, more collaborations, and expanding my brand beyond just music. 2026 is all about growth and consistency for me,” Queen Vee said.

Queen Vee is originally from a village called Ga Mmerebere, just a few kilometres outside Polokwane, and came to Pretoria in 2020, a move that she says afforded her more opportunities.

“Moving to Pretoria (Tshwane) opened up a lot of opportunities for me. The city has a vibrant creative scene, and it really helped me grow both personally and musically. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it,” Queen Vee said.

She says that music has always been her way of expression, especially when words alone weren’t enough, leading to her decision to pursue it was not just a passion but a calling.

The EP is a showcase of lekompo music, with a blend of Afro-inspired sounds. This EP brings a mix of smooth vibes, emotional storytelling, and energetic tracks that people can both feel and dance to.
