Warm hearts needed as winter drive helps homeless animals
A winter support campaign is calling on animal lovers to donate items such as blankets, jerseys and food. The initiative aims to help Wollies Animal Shelter and Pretoria Dog Rescue meet growing seasonal demand and protect vulnerable animals.

Rekord readers are being urged to open their hearts and help keep vulnerable animals warm this winter by supporting a donation drive for Wollies Animal Shelter and Pretoria Dog Rescue.
The initiative aims to collect essential items to ensure homeless animals are warm, fed and cared for during the cold months.
Rekord’s sales manager Sajedah Ameer said the campaign is focused on rallying the community to assist shelters that are experiencing increased demand during winter.
“Our goal is to ensure our homeless animals are warm and fed this winter. The colder months are extremely tough on shelters, and they rely heavily on public support to keep animals comfortable and properly cared for,” said Ameer.
She said the drive is specifically in support of both Wollies and Pretoria Dog Rescue, and both organisations urgently need community assistance.
Items that can be donated include blankets, dog jerseys, gently used towels, wet and dry dog food, wet and dry cat food, rice, kitten milk and other essentials.
“Dry food and blankets are particularly needed as shelters prepare for colder nights,” said Ameer.
Readers can drop off donations at the Rekord building at 32 Orpen Avenue, Lydiana, during office hours. The closing date for donations is May 26.
A black donation bin has been placed near the vending machine, or donations can be handed to reception.
Ameer encouraged residents, businesses and animal lovers to contribute whatever they can, stressing that even small donations make a meaningful difference.
“Every blanket, every bag of food and every towel helps. We are calling on Rekord readers to respond with open hearts and help us make this winter easier for animals who don’t have homes,” she said.
Donations for Wollies will be handed over at the end of May, while Pretoria Dog Rescue will receive their donations at the end of June.
