Locals serenaded with smooth jazz sounds on Sunday afternoon

South African saxophonist, Phil Holder, entertained jazz music lovers with his live performance during the International Jazz Day festival held at Cursive Lifestyle Eatery at Irene Country Club.

The incredible South African saxophonist, Phil Holder, entertained jazz music lovers with his skills over the weekend.

Together with his band, he entertained music lovers with a live performance at the International Jazz Day festival held at Cursive Lifestyle Eatery Irene Country Club on Sunday afternoon.

Dean Farnham, general manager for Cursive Lifestyle at Irene Country Club, said they host the jazz event every year in celebration of International Jazz Day.

Farnham said Phil Holder is a seasoned South African saxophonist, composer, and musical director known as ‘The SAX Machine’. “We invited him and his band to celebrate International Jazz Day.”

Holder began his musical journey after discovering a saxophone his brother brought home, immediately taking to the instrument. He plays across genres, including jazz, funk, rock, and soul.

Farnham said International Jazz Day was done properly with smooth sounds, drinks, and enjoying good food.

Cathle Steyn, who came with friends to watch Phil Holder and his band live, said she really loves jazz music, and Phil Holder is one of the greatest jazz musicians.

Farnham added that Phil Holder is a crowd-puller, as every seat was taken.
