New community online platform aims to improve service delivery reporting in Pretoria east
Infrastructure and public-space issues can now be reported and tracked online.
Residents can now report, track and support the resolution of infrastructure and public-space issues across Pretoria east.
This can now be done through the online platform CUP Dashboard, which was launched by Alpha Security Forum.
According to Alpha Security Forum spokesperson Aris Ruyter, the dashboard was developed to create a more structured and transparent approach to community upliftment and service delivery reporting.
“The idea behind CUP is simple. If something in the shared environment is broken, unsafe, neglected or pulling the area down, residents should have a practical way to report it and see what happens next,” said Ruyter.
The platform allows residents to report issues such as potholes, broken streetlights, illegal dumping, blocked stormwater drains, overgrown public spaces and other visible infrastructure concerns affecting neighbourhoods.
Residents can upload photographs, provide exact locations, track the progress of reported issues and view active projects on a public map.
Ruyter said CUP aims to move away from unstructured complaints and instead focus on clear, actionable reporting.
“Too often, people report issues in different places without any follow-up or co-ordination. CUP is designed to help organise those reports properly, verify the information and direct it through the correct channels,” he explained.
According to the forum, the reporting process follows six steps: residents submit an issue, the information is verified, the matter is co-ordinated with the relevant authority or community structure, action is pursued where possible, progress is tracked, and feedback is provided to the community.
The initiative focuses mainly on shared public spaces and infrastructure that affect residents on a daily basis.
Areas of focus include road maintenance, stormwater problems, streetlighting, visibility and safety concerns, waste and dumping hotspots, park maintenance, and environmental decline.
Ruyter said the dashboard also encourages residents to become actively involved in improving their communities.
“Not everyone needs to lead projects, but residents can still make a meaningful contribution by reporting issues properly, volunteering during clean-up projects or offering skills, tools, transport or other resources,” he said.
The dashboard additionally provides residents with information on active upliftment projects, governance structures and ways to contribute financially towards community initiatives.
Ruyter believes the system will help strengthen accountability and create more measurable progress in public-space maintenance.
“We want residents to see what is happening, what still needs attention and where community involvement can make a real difference,” he added.
