Planned 10-hour power outage to affect Centurion and Pretoria east suburbs on Saturday

The metro will switch off a major electricity supply line to conduct urgent maintenance and repairs.

Residents in several Centurion and Pretoria east suburbs will experience a planned 10-hour power interruption on May 16, as the Tshwane metro undertakes urgent maintenance and repair work on part of its electricity network.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo stated that the city’s Energy and Electricity Business Unit will switch off the 132kV Line 1, which supplies power to the Nyala Substation and the Lyttelton Switchyard Substation.

According to Mashigo, the shutdown is scheduled to take place from 08:00 to 18:00 to allow the city’s technical services and primary distribution teams to perform critical maintenance and repairs on the affected line.

He explained that this work is part of proactive measures aimed at preventing major breakdowns and improving the reliability and stability of the city’s electrical network.

“The planned interruption will affect residents and businesses in the following areas: De Hoewes, Kloofsig, Lyttelton, Lyttelton Manor, Waterkloof, Monument Park, Newlands, Waterkloof Ridge, Erasmuskloof, Rietvalleirand, Elardus Park, and Moreleta Park.”

Mashigo apologised for the inconvenience that may arise from the maintenance work and urged customers to treat all electrical installations as live throughout the duration of the interruption.

Residents needing to report power outages can contact the city’s Customer Care centre at 012 358 9999 and select option 3.

Alternatively, customers can report outages by sending an SMS with the word ‘power’ followed by their account number to 082 612 0333.
