Single pothole finally fixed after weeks of reporting

Pretoria North residents have welcomed the completion of pothole repairs at a key intersection. The Ward 2 councillor says ongoing resident reports and escalations helped secure action, while urging continued community involvement in reporting service delivery issues.

Residents and Ward 2 councillor Quentin Meyer in Pretoria North have welcomed the repair and clean-up work recently completed at the corner of Ben Viljoen Street and Brits Road.

This follows weeks of complaints and ongoing escalations over a pothole that had become a major concern for motorists and the community.

The pothole, situated along a busy route, had frustrated residents for an extended period as drivers were forced to manoeuvre around the damaged section of road, raising concerns about vehicle damage, traffic disruptions, and safety risks.

According to Meyer, the matter was continuously escalated through emails, logged reference numbers, and ongoing follow-ups with the relevant municipal departments until action was finally taken.

“The issue at the corner of Ben Viljoen [Street] and Brits [Road] became a serious concern for residents due to the condition of the area on this very busy road.

“Residents reported the matter over a long period, and I continuously escalated it through emails, logged references and ongoing follow-ups with the relevant departments until action was taken.”

Meyer also encouraged residents to continue reporting service delivery issues, saying community participation plays an important role in ensuring that concerns receive attention from the relevant authorities.

“I also urged residents to continue reporting the issue, as community reporting plays a major role in ensuring matters receive attention and can be properly escalated,” he added.

The councillor thanked residents who continued to raise concerns and welcomed the completion of the repairs.

“We are very pleased that the repairs and clean-up work have now been completed, and the area looks significantly better.

“Thank you as well to all residents who continued to report and raise concerns,” said Meyer.

Residents in the area said that although they were relieved the pothole had finally been repaired, the delay in resolving the issue highlighted ongoing frustrations around service delivery response times.

One resident, Tshepang Modiba, who frequently uses the road, said the pothole had become dangerous.

“It became difficult to avoid because of the traffic. I mean, we had to swerve around it and that created another danger on the road,” said Modiba.

Another resident, Michael Taurus, expressed frustration over the time it took for the repair to be completed.

“It shouldn’t take weeks of reporting to get a single pothole fixed. We appreciate that it has finally been repaired, but residents should not have to continuously complain before something gets done,” expressed Taurus.

The repair has since been welcomed by motorists and residents who said the condition of the intersection has improved significantly following the intervention.

Meyer urged the community to continue reporting service delivery problems in Ward 2, adding that co-operation between residents and local leadership remains important in pushing for solutions and improving conditions in the area.
