Stats reveal crime drop in west
Atteridgeville was the only west police station that registered an increase in contact crimes this quarter.

Police stations west of Pretoria policing precincts have shown decreases in contact crimes, among other improvements. This became clear from the latest SAPS crime statistics.
The stats detailed the crimes reported to the police stations for the fourth quarter (January to March 2026).
Here’s a look at how the western police stations performed during this period.
Atteridgeville
Atteridgeville Police Station was the only station that registered an increase in contact crimes this quarter of 14.1%. The bulk of this increase stems from a 41.1% increase in common assault cases reported (129 last quarter, up to 182 this quarter).
Assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) increased by 34.1% (91 up to 122 cases reported), and common robbery increased by seven counts (19 to 26).
Murder cases decreased by one count (13 down to 12), sexual offences by seven counts (40 to 33), and attempted murder by eight counts (22 down to 14). Robbery with aggravating circumstances decreased by 10.4% (125 down to 112 cases reported).
Rape cases reported this quarter decreased by six counts (36 to 30), and no contact sexual offences were reported compared to a single count reported last quarter.
No attempted sexual offences were reported for the previous five quarters, while three sexual assault cases were reported for this and the previous quarters.
Carjackings decreased by 15 counts (36 to 21), robbery at residential premises by five counts (23 to 18), and truck hijackings by a single count (one to zero).
No bank robberies have been reported in the past five quarters, and a single cash-in-transit (CIT) heist and arson case was registered in this and the previous quarters.
Robberies at non-residential premises increased by four counts (six up to 10), burglary at non-residential premises by nine counts (14 to 23), and kidnapping by two counts (21 to 23).
Malicious damage to property cases increased by 35.0% (60 to 81) and burglary at residential premises by 21.4% (56 to 68).
Theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle cases decreased by 11 counts (19 to eight), theft out of or from motor vehicle by eight counts (41 to 33), and stock theft by a single count (one to zero).
Hercules
The Hercules Police Station registered a decrease of 22.6% in contact crimes, recording 25 fewer counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances cases (64 to 39), and 19 fewer common robbery cases (30 to 11).
Three murder cases were reported in this and the previous quarter, and common assault cases dropped by 24.5% (102 to 77).
Sexual offences increased by five counts (eight to 13), attempted murder by two (nine to 11), rape by three (six to nine), and sexual assault by two counts (two to four).
No attempted sexual offences or contact sexual offences have been reported in the past two quarters.
Truck hijackings increased by four counts this quarter, compared to none in the previous four quarters, and carjackings increased by two counts (eight to 10), while kidnappings increased by three (seven to 10).
No bank robberies or CIT heists have been reported in the past five quarters.
Robbery at residential premises decreased by five counts (six to one), robbery at non-residential premises by 10 counts (12 to two), arson by two (two to zero), malicious damage to property by 15 (53 to 38), and burglary at non-residential premises by six (23 to 17). Theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle by 17 (56 to 39), and theft out of or from motor vehicle by 13 counts (42 to 29).

Pretoria West
Preotria West Police Station saw a decrease of 11.3% in contact crimes this quarter.
Attempted murder decreased by one count (eight to seven), assault with GBH by 11 counts (60 to 49), and common robbery by five counts (24 to 19).
Robbery with aggravating circumstances decreased by 17.0% (153 to 127) and common assault by 1.6% (125 to 123).
Murder and sexual offences remained constant, registering nine and 21 cases respectively in the two previous quarters, as did attempted sexual offences, with a single count reported.
Rape cases increased by seven counts (11 to 18), but sexual assault decreased by six (eight to two) and contact sexual offences decreased by one count (one to zero).
Carjacking decreased by seven counts (42 to 35), robbery at residential premises by 19 counts (29 to 10), and robbery at non-residential premises decreased by three counts (12 to nine).
Truck hijacking cases increased by one count after none were reported last quarter.
No bank robberies, stock thefts or cash-in-transit heists have been reported in the previous five quarters. No arson cases have been reported in the past two quarters.
Theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle cases decreased by 12 counts (48 to 36), and theft out of or from motor vehicle cases decreased by 4.3% (70 to 67).
Burglary at residential premises decreased by 56.9% (144 to 62), and burglary at non-residential premises increased by one count (22 to 23).
Malicious damage to property cases increased by 9.7% (62 to 68).
