Campaign aims to support hospice patients
The Cycle of Care campaign raises awareness about hospice care and generates support for families who rely on Sungardens Hospice’s services. In celebration of its 40th anniversary, residents are urged to purchase a commemorative wristband.
Sungardens Hospice invites residents across Pretoria to join its Cycle of Care campaign, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about hospice care and generating support for patients and families who rely on its services.
The campaign forms part of the hospice’s 40th anniversary celebrations and encourages members of the public to purchase a commemorative wristband.
According to Sungardens Hospice fundraiser Lizo Tom, the campaign is designed to strengthen the connection between the hospice and the community.
“Many people only associate hospice care with hospitals, but there is so much more to what we do,” said Tom.
“This campaign gives residents an opportunity to learn about our services, understand how they can access support and become involved in helping others.”
Tom said one of the biggest benefits of the campaign is that it helps create awareness about the resources available to patients and families facing serious illnesses.
Through its services, Sungardens Hospice provides palliative care, counselling, caregiver support, bereavement programmes and home-based care for patients who require ongoing assistance.
Tom said that by engaging with the campaign, residents can gain a better understanding of how hospice care supports not only patients but also their loved ones.
The campaign also provides community members with a simple and affordable way to make a difference.
Residents can purchase a wristband and contribute towards services that are provided free of charge to patients.
“None of our patients pay for the care they receive,” said Tom.
“The funds raised through the campaign help us continue supporting patients in our inpatient unit and through our community-based programmes.”
She said the initiative is about creating a cycle of support where community members help care for those facing difficult circumstances.
“We are asking residents to buy a wristband, wear it proudly and share the message with their friends, families and colleagues. Every person who gets involved helps us reach more people and provide care to more patients.”
The campaign is open to individuals, schools, businesses and community groups who would like to support the hospice’s work.
Residents can get involved by purchasing a Cycle of Care wristband from the Sungardens Hospice Retail Shop or by contacting the fundraising department directly.
“As we celebrate 40 years of caring, we want the community to be part of that journey,” said Tom.
“By supporting the campaign, residents become part of a circle of compassion that helps ensure no patient has to face their journey alone.”
