Soshanguve school learners gifted shoes

“I chose to donate to this school after noticing learners not wearing school shoes one morning as I drove to work.”

“Giving is not just about making a donation, it is about making a difference,” says founder of Mokalanga foundation, Norman Munyai.

The foundation donated 32 shoes to Sinqobile primary school learners on August 11.

Munyai said he doesn’t want other learners to go through what he went through when he was a learner.

“First this foundation was all about soccer, but this year was a little bit different. The teams that were going to play in the Mokalanga top 16 decided to donate.

“Each and every team donated shoes and I chose to donate to the school.”

Munyai said that while he was driving to work one morning he saw kids going to school without school shoes on.

“I followed those kids and saw them entering the school,” he said.

Munyai said this was not the only school that they would be donating shoes to.

“We will be donating shoes at schools where I see a need because I know how it feels to be unfortunate.

“I don’t want to see other people growing up going to school without shoes like what I experienced when I was young.

“I am giving back to the community of Soshanguve,” he said.

Sinqobile SGB chairperson Iframe Malinga thanked the foundation on behalf of the children and their parents.

“We thank this foundation for noticing the school. The kids’ home situations are not good.

“I hope that even the parents will appreciate it and those who did not get shoes another foundation will notice and donate to them.

“I wish for God to bless them [foundation] so that they also help other schools tomorrow,” he said.

School principal Mrs Masilela also thanked the foundation for distributing school shoes.

“It is a humbling moment.

“And looking at the shoes that the learners were wearing… indeed [the donation] came at the right time,” she said.
