Suspected Laudium motorbike thief nabbed
The 40-year-old man was arrested on Thursday morning after he was spotted driving past the Laudium police station.
Police in Laudium arrested an alleged motorcycle thief when he was found driving a motorcycle reported to have been hijacked.
The 40-year-old man was arrested on Thursday morning after he was spotted driving past the Laudium police station.
The suspect was followed and stopped at the corner of 19th Avenue and Grey Street.
The officers then questioned the man, said police spokesperson Sergeant Simon Chokoe.
“They conducted verification checks using the registration number and the motorcycle was found to be reported hijacked in Laudium,” he said.
“The motorcycle was immediately seized.”
Chokoe said the suspect couldn’t account for the motorcycle and he was immediately arrested for the possession of a stolen motorcycle.
Meanwhile, theft continues to be a problem in the area.
Last week, Rekord reported on the arrest of a 27-year-old man who was found to be in possession of a stolen bicycle.
The 27-year-old was also spotted riding the bicycle on Sapphire Street in Laudium.
The suspect couldn’t account for the items in his possession and was immediately arrested for suspected possession of stolen property.
Chokoe said the SAPS will continue with more visibility patrolling as well as stop-and-search operations around Laudium.
The Laudium police station commander Lieutenant-Colonel David Sithole applauded the officers for their hard work and success.
