Two cars burn in Laudium fire
One patient was treated for smoke inhalation and no injuries were reported.
Two cars were damaged during a house fire in Laudium on late Sunday evening.
According to Laudium Disaster Management, they received a call around midnight of a house fire in Kashmir Crescent.
Arriving at the scene, the team saw that a house and a garage with two cars parked inside were ablaze.
The team was able to douse the flames with the help of the Tshwane Fire Brigade.
One person was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.
Fortunately, no injuries or deaths were recorded.
An investigation into what caused the fire is currently underway.
As the cold front sees a dramatic drop in temperatures in the province, especially during the evening, residents use heaters which can lead to house fires.
Police provided the following safety tips when using heating appliances in the house:
– Keep your heater away from any flammable or combustible materials.
– Remember to switch off the heater when nobody is at home.
– When using a fuel-fired heater in an enclosed area, leave a window or door partially open to allow fresh air to enter.
– Never take a gas, fire or kerosene heater into a confined space as the results could be deadly.
– Do not leave heating appliances unattended, especially around young children.
– Ensure that previously lit objects (like cigarette butts or coals) are completely “dead” before disposing of them.
– Make sure your home has no illegal and faulty electric cables as these can also lead to the outbreak of a house fire.
Lastly, police urged residents to ensure they have functioning fire extinguishers at home.
