Cat’s leg amputated after shot in the leg in north of Pretoria
“There was only one choice - we had to amputate poor Garfield’s front left leg.”
An animal rescue centre in the north of Pretoria had to amputate a cat’s leg after it was shot with a pellet gun last week.
“We were approached to help a cat that had been limping,” said Wetnose Animal Rescue Centre manager Veronica van Greunen.
“After taking x-rays, a bullet from a pellet gun was found lodged in the cat’s foot.”
“We enquired about where the cat, named Garfield, would have been shot. The owner told us that Garfield was wandering around the area where she lived and found herself in the yard of a horrible human.
“This abuser then decided that to get the cat out of his yard he would just shoot at it with his pellet gun.
“There was only one choice – we had to amputate poor Garfield’s front left leg.”
Van Greunen called on the community to help with food donations as they are running low on supplies.
“We have lots of animals at the organisation that need to be fed.”
She said to continue to advocate for the animals in their care, they need the public’s donations to feed the animals and keep them safe.
Wet Nose Animal Rescue Centre, founded in the 1990s, is registered non-profit organisation devoted to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of abandoned, abused and neglected animals.
“We have a ‘right to life’ policy, which means that we do not put animals to sleep unless they are suffering and it is in the best interests of that animal.
“You can do your bit by dropping off food at the shelter, walk a dog or two or even sponsor a kennel.”
